Boys Youth Club -Moadon Noar

Providing teenage boys from 13-16 years old with a safe and nurturing alternative to unsupervised evenings on the streets, the Jaffa Daled Youth Club staff holistically address the adolescents’ academic, therapeutic, and nutritional needs.

These teens receive educational support in core subjects, including English, Hebrew & mathematics. To build a sense of community at the Center, the teenagers also participate in recreational programming, including basketball, ping-pong, board games, and field trips.

The Jaffa Institute launched the Moadon Noar: Youth Club for At-Risk Teenage Boys after a group of severely impoverished teenagers vandalized our Jaffa Daled After-School Educational Enrichment Center for at-risk children. Though disappointed, the Center’s social workers understood that the teenagers’ actions demonstrated a critical need for therapeutic support and recreational activities. To address this need, the Moadon Noar meets at the Jaffa Daled Center in the evening, three days a week, offering a safe, comfortable space for the boys.

The program operates under the following principles: accepting everyone on equal terms, without hierarchy; understanding that the knowledge necessary to face the challenges in the realities of the participants’ lives is within their grasp and will be made accessible to them; and making them partners in crafting content and methods in order to empower them and allow them to give expression to their strengths. The program takes into account traditional perceptions, while constantly exploring how the girls are understood and conceptualized in their community of origin.
