Road to Resilience

Road to Resilience is a mobile clinic program that provides an immediate, accessible response to border communities’ urgent emotional and mental-health needs, offering equal and easy access to professional therapy in a relaxed, informal atmosphere that reduces the stigma attached to mental health treatment.
What Makes us Unique
-
Accessibility: The mobile clinic comes straight to the community and neighborhood, allowing easy access of services for people who are unable to travel to distant treatment centers.
-
Mobility: The mobility of our program has proved invaluable, as it allowed us to access evacuated communities living in areas that have limited infrastructure and where the ability to travel from place to place is restricted due to the threat of rocket attacks.
-
Relaxed Atmosphere: The mobile environment creates a less intimidating, more informal atmosphere, facilitating open conversation and connection with patients.

Creative Therapeutic Methods
Therapeutic cooking workshops, provide a safe and controlled environment where individuals can focus on the process, helping them to relax and reduce anxiety. The act of preparing and sharing meals helps foster a sense of accomplishment and normalcy, which is crucial for those recovering from trauma. It allows participants to engage in a structured and predictable activity, offering a sense of stability and routine. Additionally, the sensory experience of cooking—touching, smelling, and tasting food—can be grounding and help reconnect individuals with their bodies in a positive way. These workshops often encourage collaboration and communication, helping to build trust and social skills.

Therapeutic photography sessions involve the process of taking, analyzing, and reflecting on photos to aid in personal healing and growth. This form of therapy can be particularly beneficial for children who have experienced trauma. It allows them to express their emotions and experiences in a non-verbal way, which is especially helpful for those who may struggle to articulate their feelings. By creating and discussing photographs, children can gain a sense of control and empowerment, improve their self-esteem, and develop a better understanding of their emotions and the world around them. This creative approach can also foster a stronger connection between the child and the therapist, as well as provide a safe space for exploring and processing difficult experiences.

Drama Therapy workshops allow victims to address their trauma through active and experiential acting, providing the space to relate their stories, explore, express and release feelings and consider their future.
All therapy sessions are led by trained professionals specializing in each of the respective therapeutic fields.
The program is currently operating in multiple communities near the Gaza border and in northern Israel that were not among those officially evacuated and as a result have not readily been provided with additional resources.
Activities are led by a social worker specializing in trauma and resilience and are conducted once a week at four different locations - Kibbutz Brur Chayil, Kibbutz Ruhama, Kibbutz Or HaNer and Hof Ashkelon Regional Council - in three groups of 8 to10 children, a total of twelve groups in all, with some 100-120 children participating altogether. At the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council, meetings also take place with three groups of parent-child pairs
Additional adult enrollment is still underway. We are also planning to commence activities in Kibbutz Be’eri in the near future.
